Four days of backpacking🎒 through Manipur, and here’s everything I had:
– Yu: local rice liquor, usually homemade and shared in small sips. Very potent!🌾🥃
- Manipuri Fish thali: sticky rice with local fish curry, fermented fish chutney, local greens, and seasonal vegetables. Manipuris eat a lot of freshwater fish.🐟
– Eromba: a spicy mix of boiled veggies and fermented fish, served as a side. 🎣🥬
– Lal cha: Manipuri red tea, brewed without milk, with a hint of lemon.🍵
– Khajing bora: crispy shrimp pakoras popular in local markets (Mother's market) and roadside dhabas🍤
– Chak-Hao Kheer (Black rice pudding): made from sticky black rice native to Manipur.🍮
– Chicken curry with rice: wholesome, homestyle with local herbs. Very pungent!🧆
Plus found Chang Thailand beer🍺 and Vietnamese coffee☕ in Imphal's growing cafe scene.
Save it for your trip to Manipur!
