Head to the mountains

Head to Chiang Mai, Thailand’s mountain city, and you’ll find a chilled environment, perfect for kids.

There’s a zoo, where you can see a whole host of amazing animals including pandas (score!), as well as national parks with waterfalls, Buddhist temples, museums, markets, and more. You can even try out a Thai cooking school – what better way to teach the kids about Thai culture and taste some yummy food at the same time!

Go island-hopping

Not just for those on an infamous gap year but island-hopping is a must for all once you get to South East Asia, especially Thailand.

Inject a little culture and adventure into the holiday and take the children on a boat tour of all the best hidden coves and beaches. You’ll enjoy it for the laid-back vibes and sunbathing, and the kids will love it for swimming in the shallow, warm waters, and larking around on the white sandy beaches. Make sure popular destinations such as Phuket are first on the list, to get things off to a great start!

Visit the temples

Again, possibly not one which immediately springs to mind due to the likely tantrums and lagging in the heat, but you can’t go to Thailand and not see its beautiful temples.

Help the kids experience some culture by taking them on a trip to see all the big temples and teaching them about each one along the way. Try and make the trip fun and interactive by having them guess the names, find out additional information, and quiz them about what they have learnt. Try not to make it too formal, but having something fun to test them with will make them pay attention, and help educate them (even on a holiday).

Explore Bangkok

Some people think it’s crazy taking a family to Bangkok, but I’d disagree.

Bangkok is teeming with activity all year around – call it Thailand’s thriving hub if you will. Although it’s hot and busy, it’s a great day outing and definitely an experience to soak in. There’s so much to keep the kids entertained; from the amazing floating markets to the museums.

But don’t just take my word for it, go see it to believe it!
